About this websiteThis website is intended to be a kind of extended CV. A place to put personal interests, projects and achievements that don't really fit on a CV.
Here you can find out more about some things I've worked in my spare time.
When I built this site it was the first website I'd ever made. With the help of online tutorials I originally built it with php and very limited functionality and on my account on my university server. Since then it has gone through many upgrades, been converted to Java and moved onto my personal Google compute engine.

Personal HistoryI was born and raised in Zimbabwe until I left for university at UCT in 2012. My junior school was Borrowdale Primary and for high school I went to St. John's College in Harare. While I was in junior school I took gymnastics, judo and horse riding lessons. Sadly I gave up all of these in the first few years of high school but at university I had the opportunity to take up gymnastics again and I have managed to keep up the sport for 3 years.
In my early high school years (age 12-14 ) my father helped me to rebuild a 1979 Honda motorbike that had been parked several years and required a full engine rebuild. When I was 16 I took on the bigger challenge of refurbishing a 1968 Series 2 Land Rover that had been broken down and exposed to the elements for 3 years. I succeeded in restoring the vehicle to full working condition made several long distance trips since.
Also when I was 16 I took part in a 10 day intensive outdoor training course run by Outward Bound Zimbabwe. The course focused on teaching skills in mountaineering, rock climbing and mountain rescue. I have been hiking with my father and sister regularly since I was about 8 years old and I continue to enjoy hiking with friends and family.
After completing my A Levels in Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Physics I took a gap year before going to university. I used this time to diversify my education by learning metal welding (including SMAW, MIG and TIG welding), and by getting my Private Pilot's Licence (PPL). I flew recreationally for several years until I unfortunately had to give up my licence due to the mounting cost of aviation in Zim. I did however manage to fly a 61 year old aeroplane from Harare to Victoria Falls to meet up with the "Crete to Cape" vintage air rally in November of 2016.
In 2017 I took up rock climbing again and found I greatly enjoyed it. It's one of my favourite hobbies and I generally go climbing at least twice a week. I'd say I'm a pretty average climber with a sport on-sight grade of about 6a and a trad grade of about 5c.
My most recent hobby is sailing. In April 2021 a few friends of mine convinced me to take part in a 4 day sailing school at a nearby lake. There were particularly strong winds that weekend and I capsized at least twice. Needless to say I thoroughly enjoyed it and have been doing my best to make it out to the lake every weekend with a decent wind forecast.
